Some markets have specific regulations for CBD products in order to provide more safety for consumers. One of such requests is the absence of THC (Dronabinol), for which otherwise the acceptable limit in Europe is set to 0.2 % (in US this limit is 0.3 %). 


For one of our customers we had to develop highly sensitive analytical method, that is capable of detecting traces of THC.


The method was developed by using gas chromatography coupled with a mass-selective detector. In order to ensure a sufficiently low detection limit, we used the single ion monitoring (SIM) mode, which, unlike the usual full mass spectrum (SCAN) mode, monitors only selected ions that were set specifically for the THC molecule. In this way, we reached the detection limit of 1 ppm (0.0001 %), which in other words means that we can detect a single THC particle in the vicinity of millions of other particles. Quantification limit of method is 5 ppm (0.0005 %).


As a novelty our laboratory offers analysis »THC FREE«, which is capable of detecting 1 ppm (0.0001 %) of THC in CBD samples. Accurate quantification is performed from level of 5 ppm onwards, which is quantification limit of method.
